Choose The Right Children's Shoes At Back-To-School Time

Author: Donald Yacono

When it comes to buying kids footwear, concentrate on shoes that have the proper fit, construction, and quality.

Proper Fit

Its back to school time and your children will need new shoes. Keep in mind that although the shoe looks good, it is also important to make sure that it fits properly. Your childrens feet continue to grow throughout their teen years. They will experience several growth spurts. That is why it is important to check their shoe size periodically. Always have both their feet measured when purchasing your childrens shoes. It is best to do this while they are in the standing position. Check to make sure that there is at least one thumbs width between your childs big toe and the end of the shoe. Make sure that the heel has a nice snug fit. If the width of the shoe isnt quite right, move on to the next pair. Remember, it is always best to shop for footwear in the evening when your childs foot is more swollen from walking all day long. This practice will give you a much better idea as to your childs correct shoe size.

Construction

It is very important to provide your children with good, supportive footwear. Concentrate your search on strong, sturdy shoes. Choose shoes with good heel strength and arch support. New footwear should feel comfortable from the very first time it is worn. A new shoe really doesnt need to be broken in. If it does, then its just not the right match for your childs foot. Look for footwear made out of a material that breathes well. When it comes to childrens footwear, it is best to avoid high heels. It is recommended that you stick with a flat, textured sole. This type of shoe provides the best traction and prevents slipping.

Quality

Stick with a well-known shoe manufacturer such as Sperry, Stride Rite, and Vans Kids.

The better quality shoes feature soft inner linings and contrast stitching. Choose a shoe with a smooth cushioned, shock absorbing sole. Non-marking traction outsoles are definitely the preferred choice.

Look for footwear made out of a material that breathes well. It will keep your childs feet cooler and drier.

Summary

When purchasing childrens footwear, it is important to make the right choice. Wearing the proper shoes goes a long way toward maintaining good foot health.
